I ordered the cover for the third book of The Chronicles of the Robot Whisperers, titled The Mind Collector. If you were wondering if I was going to write a third book, well, now you know. Yes, there will be a third book. Once I commit to a cover, it’s pretty much a done deal. All I have to do is plan it, write it, and publish it.
I’ve been running Facebook Ads on this series (that’s probably how you ended up here). My purpose was to gauge interest and collect metrics on how the series will perform. If I were just doing this for a hobby, I’d just write them and not look back. But I’m trying to get an income from my books so I can do them full-time, and that’s a challenge. So far, the sales look promising. It’s difficult to tell with a 2-book series. Especially one that has not been fully committed to. For instance, I still don’t know if this is going to be a 5-book series or a 10-book series. If reader interest picks up as I add books, then I’ll keep adding books. I also have to watch the read-through from books 1 to 2. If that’s too low, then it won’t be worth my trouble to continue.
Of course, these are all technical details of how the business runs, and readers just want to know when this book will be out.
Expected Publishing Date
I plan to wrap up and publish To End the Silence in mid-May. That book would have been done next weekend, if not for work commitments. Next weekend is all tied up, so I’ll have to wait until the weekend after before I can finish the read-out-loud and publish. Could be as early as the 10th, but I wouldn’t hold my breath. I still have some story work to do on the ending, even though I’ve already started editing the beginning.
That means that I can plow right into The Mind Collector after that. I should have the planning done before that weekend, then I can start rough drafting as early as the 11th of May. That would put the publish date around the end of June. Maybe before that. May is a bit shaky for productivity. I have a lot going on at work, and I have to play it by ear. I’m hoping everything settles down in June. Then I can get into my new schedule of cranking out a book a month. It’s aggressive, but I’ve already demonstrated it can be done. I wrote The Missing Link in 33 days. I started To End the Silence on March 1st, but I also wrote Dangerous Cargo at the same time. That was a bit crazy, and I recently hit days where my productivity took a hit.
Looking at the calendar, I’m thinking that I should be able to write six more books from July until the end of the year. Off the top of my head, I’ll probably write book 1 of a new series in that time, plus two Robot Whisperer books (to round out the series to the minimum of 5). I haven’t committed to a new series yet, but I’m sure it’ll be Daphne Blazefire universe-related.
