Nathanael is at 58% complete right now (assuming it comes out to 100,000 words). I managed to write 5,000 words today, which puts me 10,000 words ahead of schedule. I’m probably jinxing myself by mentioning this, but it certainly feels good to be almost a week ahead. If I can keep it up or add more, I can wrap this book up early. I’m trying to push myself to get the book done by the end of April. I’m not actually writing it faster. I’m just putting in more writing hours than usual.
This book has turned out to be easier to write than most. There is just so much material to work with that it’s easy to write one scene after the other. Usually, I end up running out of material for the main thread of the story and have to add a subplot. Sometimes, I have to add something to tie things together. When I mapped out this story, I put down a list of scenes I thought I would need, then adjusted them as I wrote the rough draft. I still have scenes that I know I’m going to need to wrap everything up so I can see where I won’t need any extra material.
Anyway, with the book nearing completion, I have to start thinking about book 6. I still have not picked out a subject for that book or if it’ll be the last (probably not). At this point, I’m probably going to decide how the series will end. Well, the specifics. We all know how it’ll end… But there are different ways that the story concludes. If I can work that out first, then I can decide if I need a book in between.
