I’m still working out some story ideas and twists for a new series. I’ve tried different variations on the theme for the Robot Whisperer, and I don’t like any of them. Well, there are a few pieces I like, but coaxing the pieces into a story is proving difficult. Not to say that I won’t eventually hash it out, but the clock is ticking. My self-imposed clock of “I can’t go forever without writing the next book,” clock. If this drags on too long, I’ll pull up another Daphne story and write that while the next potential book series bakes in the back of my brain. I spent some time putting together some twists and possible story ideas for four Daphne stories. Which one comes next is anyone’s guess at this point. If I decide on a story to write, I’ll get the covers commissioned while I get the story plotted, then I’ll put up the widget with my progress so everyone knows what’s being worked on.
Of course, I’ll do the same if I come up with a new series as well. A new series will start with one book. I’ve been known to write more than one before advertising, but that’s risky, and I don’t want to waste half a year on a 3 or 4-book series just to find out nobody likes it (it happens). I’ll create one book, maybe put an Ad on it to see the volume it brings in. Then I’ll probably have to take a chance on a series (I suspect one book won’t get killer readership, but you never know). I can always tell when a book isn’t going to perform. They get maybe 20 to 50 page reads per day and don’t budge from that statistic.
That’s where I’m at right now.
