Dangerous Cargo is still being reviewed and edited. This means that I blew past my self-imposed deadline. The Nav Computer rough draft is complete. I’m running through the story and making sure there are no inconsistencies. I will also be added a subplot to the story because the overall length is short. I have some ideas to increase the intensity of the story. That should bring it up to the 50k word size that Dangerous Cargo is. I also put down almost 4k words into Stolen Property. Sometimes I have to get a scene out of my mind and onto the keyboard. The last book I have planned for this series is called “Supercomputer” or “The Supercomputer.” That will bring the set to five books. Once that is complete, I’ll evaluate the sales and make a decision to continue or end the series.
My graphic artist (warrendesign) will be working on the cover for The Nav Computer next week! I can hardly contain my excitement. He created the covers for the first two books. As soon as the next cover is ready, I’ll post an update and do a reveal for The Nav Computer.
What am I reading?
I just finished reading “The Flight of the Intruder” by Stephen Coonts. I would have to say that it lived up to its hype as a riveting story. I blew through that book in about two weeks (I only have about a half-hour to an hour per day to read). I read that book like a writer studying from a master craftsman. That’s the kind of story intensity I want to bring to the other series that I’m working on.
I started reading “Backyard Starship” by Cheny Maggert. I’m only 4% into the book and it’s off to a good start. I’m about 57% through “Friday” by Robert Heinlein. That book is a grind. I keep pushing it to my DNF list, but then I wonder how the story is going to end. Just out of morbid curiosity. Reminds me of Moby Dick. Sheesh, I made it to the part where the protagonist is reclassifying all the whales of the world and trying to justify his personal classification methods to the reader. Major snooze-fest. I have it on my Kindle, so one day, I’m going to go back and skip over that part and try and finish that book.
I also have a paperback copy of “For Whom the Bell Tolls” by Ernest Hemingway. Yeah. I know. Heavy stuff. But, I’m almost done! I can smell the ending. Of course, the last 5% of the book is about the size of a normal book, but, hey, I made it this far. I’m concentrating on his writing style, but I promise, I hope to never write a book that moves that slow. It’s a book of its time.
