The Demons
I have the rough draft completed, which means I’m in the story-fix stage. I have almost a hundred notes, some major, some minor. The major fixes involve issues that cropped up when I arrived near the end of the story and need to go back and rework some of the earlier scenes to make them consistent. There were a few fixes I already accomplished involving characters that I needed near the end. I had to go back and work them into an earlier scene to make sure they were properly introduced. Overall, I like the way the story came out. There is a lot to it and that means that there’s plenty of story to tell going forward. Some of the loose ends are tied off before the end of the book, but it is a series and I have quite a lot of threads I left open for the next book.
The rough draft came out to 118k words, but that will certainly expand. Some of my notes involve adding to the story. I need more detail added to some scenes to make sure everything fits together. I estimate that the end product will exceed 120k, maybe 125k, or more. I’m hoping to have the fixes completed before the end of the month. That will leave me with April to read through the story and tie it all up.
Once The Demons is wrapped up and published, I’ll switch back to The Traveler Series, book 2. Book 2 should make the first book sell better. Nobody wants to buy book 1 of an unfinished series. Not even me! Currently, the clicks per buy rate are too high, making it not work the advertising costs. It might still be too high if the read-through isn’t good after book 2, but we’ll see what happens. Either way, I’ll be switching back to writing book 2 of the Escape from the Abyss series right after book 2 of The Traveler Series.
Stay tuned…
