Escape from the Abyss

I’m almost done with the rough draft of The Demons. As of this posting, I’m at 99k words. I have 12 pre-planned scenes to complete the book, but I’m sure that’ll grow a little. I’m still thinking the book will be 120k when it’s finished.

Writing Act III is the most difficult part of the book. I have a lot of loose ends that need to be tied off. They’re all coming together in these final scenes. I also have a long list of notes for things I need to fix in Acts I and II to make the story work. Overall, it’s coming together nicely. I think this story is coming together close to how I had envisioned it. Many times I finish a story and it disappoints. Things don’t work the way I had hoped, or the overall story doesn’t have the impact I had originally wanted. This story has all the elements I was hoping for. My gut feeling (I’ve learned to trust my gut), is that this story is going to do well. To top it off, it has a lot of complexity that will carry it along for quite a few more books. As I’ve mentioned before I planned for a 20-book series, but it might end up with only 10 to 15 books. We’ll see what happens.

In my head, I have a rough estimate of mid-March when the rough draft will be completed. Then I have to do all the story fixes that I noted and any fixes that crop up when I’m editing. That’ll probably be April before all that is wrapped up and I start the final editing. Then I’ll do a quick edit and do the read-out-loud. That’ll probably take three weeks to complete. So…. May? That would be nice.

Desperate Action

The sale for this book ended on Friday (Feb 11th). I’ll do a test run of Facebook Ads to see if it can hold its own. I doubt if one book will earn anything using Ads. For the sale, I managed to get one sale per 10 clicks (approximately). That comes out to $3.13 of advertising cost per sale. That would make money for a book selling at $5 per copy, but I doubt if the number of clicks per sale will stay so low with the price higher. But… I’m OK, with that because I can hold off on the sales until after the second book is published. Those books will take me about 2.5 to 3 months each. If The Demons is published before June, then that means that the second book of The Traveler series should be released around August or September. I can hardly wait to see how it all shakes out.

Well… It’s time to stop blogging about my progress and get to work on making more progress.
