Inside the writing world

It’s been a little more than a week since I last reported my progress. I have the rough draft for Stolen Property completed and I’m already eight scenes into the editing. The first pass of editing for this book will be a bit rough. I have to fix inconsistencies caused by changes in the ending. I’ve already skipped around a few scenes and fixed some things, but there will be more. I anticipate that the first-pass edit will be complete in the next three or four days. Then I’ll do a quick grammar check and a “Show don’t tell” analysis (that’s where I look for words that indicate “telling”). The last step will be for myself and Michelle to read it out loud together and edit/change things that look bad.

After that… Well, that’s where it gets fun, right? I publish the book and start on the last one. The last one for now. I’m still not sure if this series will continue, or if I’ll cut it off after five books. I’m committed to the five. I also have a prequel outline with detailed notes. That one might be easy enough to write quickly.

I plan to tweak the Ads and try more Facebook advertising. I have some sales data, but it’s not great. There are several possible causes. One of which is the fact that there are only three books out. Once I have five released, I’ll have a better idea of what the sales will look like. Even if sales are low, I’ll keep my eye on things. There is always the possibility that the books don’t get discovered right away. Maybe they’ll take off next spring and I can pick up where I left off and add another five books. Another possibility is that they won’t sell and I’ll leave the set at five books. I’m keeping my fingers crossed because I have a lot of material for more books.
