This book is my current focus. I’m currently running Ads on Novis Terminal to evaluate how it will be received. So far, with only three days into the sales, it’s a smashing success. It’ll take a week or two before I can collect enough statistics to compute the read-through rate from Novis Terminal to Dangerous Cargo. Right now, Novis Terminal is getting an incredible amount of KU page reads and Kindle sales. Which means I’ll be getting a large sample in no time. Usually, I get weak sales for the first couple of weeks, and it takes me months to get enough data to make a real determination.

Typos

I ran the book through ProWritingAid and did a Read-Out-Loud with my wife and two read-throughs before hitting the publish button. Then I downloaded it to my iPad and read through the first few scenes. That’s when I stumbled onto a bunch of typos, grammatical errors, spelling problems, yikes! I apologize to the early adopters who read past those ugly typos. I’m almost halfway through the story, and I’m fixing several scenes at a time and re-publishing the eBook. The fixes will sync back down to your device, so you’ll get the updates, even if you first pulled down your book when the bugs existed. Even if you bought the Kindle version, you’ll get the latest updates. I promise there will be no story changes.

Dangerous Cargo

If this is the first time you’ve read the Daphne Blazefire series of books, you might notice a difference in the voice or tone of Dangerous Cargo (after reading through Novis Terminal, 2nd edition). That’s because Dangerous Cargo was written in 2022, and Novis Terminal is a completely rewritten book. Oh, I left all the necessary pieces in the Novis Terminal story that feeds Dangerous Cargo. I wanted to make sure that anyone who read either version of Novis Terminal would be able to go straight to Dangerous Cargo without any inconsistencies. And if I decide to do the same for Dangerous Cargo, the same pieces that must carry forward will be in the new version.

Now you’re probably wondering if I’m going to rewrite Dangerous Cargo. It’s still on my mind. Of course, I won’t start on such a project until Shadows is done and published. Then there will be decisions to be made. Like, if the read-through drops off hard after Dangerous Cargo. I could give it a light touch and add depth to the story here and there. Or, more likely, I could do a reimage like I did with Novis Terminal and call it a second edition. That would automatically lead me to rewrite The Nav Computer and Stolen Property. I’m still on the fence about Supercomputer. That one came out darn good. It isn’t easy to cite stats on that book because the read-through on the old set dropped steeply. Like, Novis Terminal had 10,000 KU page reads (approximately) and Supercomputer had around 2,000. Readers just didn’t make it to the fifth book. If I want to improve the read-through of the series, I’ll probably rewrite each book, starting with Dangerous Cargo, until I reach Stolen Property, then collect data on the read-through from there on. If there’s a steep drop-off at that point, then I’ll have to do a rewrite of Supercomputer.

I never imagined that I’d be creating a second edition of each Daphne book, but it works, so I’m willing to roll up my sleeves and get the job done.

One other thing to think of. I might rewrite two books, then write a new book, then continue with a rewrite of the next. That way, I’m expanding the series as I fix the older books. I have 17 story ideas lined up, which means I’ll probably do two sets of 10 books.
