A Good Start

Escape from the Abyss – Book 2

So far this week, I managed to crank out 12,234 words for the rough draft of book 2. It was a slow start on Monday after spending the last weekend plotting out some of the main scenes of the story. Now that I’ve gotten into some of the dialogs of my characters, I can see more clearly how this story will look and feel. I changed one of the plot twists to make it more surprising. I’m hoping I can keep up the pace. I mapped it out on a spreadsheet, keeping my daily average very conservative. I predict that the rough draft will be completed on June 15th. Let’s see if that happens.

The first book started off with a bang. I was cranking out an average of 1,500 words a day. Then it came to a halt in 2022 because I had other projects that I needed to wrap up. When I picked it back up, I had to go back through and review what I had written and tweak it some. That brought my average to 1,800 per day. Some of my time was also distracted by the Tome. By the end of the book, I averaged 1,500 words per day of the days I wrote in that book. So there were days I spent time on the Tome and not on the book. If I included zero days, the average was probably a lot lower. That’s why it took 4 months this year to complete.

Book 2, however, is a different story. The Tome is completed, published, and fixed in place. I have no intention of making changes to that book. I also don’t have plans for any other extra material at this time, though I did hint that there were history books written during the consolidation. That would be material that wasn’t considered Canon for the Tome by the committee. So, expect one or two history books might show up later in the series. I might just mention that they have such books and mention outtakes that the characters read from the book. Who knows?

If you look to the right side, you’ll see a new widget I added to the website. It’s the progress for the current book I’m working on. I’ll update that every day to reflect my progress on Book 2. It’s easier to find than the books in progress page.
